Yet Another Zombie Survivors Synergies Guide
A synergy is a chain: one Survivor or ability creates a trigger, another converts it into control or damage, and the rest of the squad turns that window into progress. Version 1.0 expands the system, but the current client still decides which nodes, abilities, and effects are unlocked on your save.
Synergy Facts for Version 1.0
These system-level facts come from the official 1.0 release notes. Exact effect values and every pair-specific interaction are not treated as hands-on-confirmed here.
The Trigger-to-Payoff Model
Use this model before buying a synergy card. If a link has no trigger, no converter, or no payoff, it is only a theoretical connection.
Trigger
A mark, ability activation, status, summon, zone, pickup, or weapon behavior begins the chain. Example labels include Marked, Electric, Freeze, or Fire.
Converter
A second Survivor, ability, or Rank node changes the trigger into control, another status, a projectile effect, a taunt, a mine, or an area of damage.
Control window
Freeze, taunt, shield, movement, knockback, or a persistent zone gives the squad time to stay in its effective range and keep attacking.
Payoff
A carry weapon, critical route, direct Boss damage, or team passive converts the temporary window into kills. The payoff must still work when ordinary enemies stop being the main target.
How to Build a Synergy on Your Save
- Start with one sentence. For example: "Marks create critical pressure while Freeze keeps targets inside ranged weapon distance."
- Choose the Leader that can open the plan. The first weapon or ability must function before the full chain is online.
- Recruit the trigger or converter first. Take the Survivor who turns the current offer into a real interaction, not just another disconnected damage source.
- Check node dependencies. Confirm the relevant Survivor, ability, evolution, and Rank node are unlocked and not excluded from the current run.
- Protect the primary range. A control effect is helpful only if it keeps targets where the carry weapon can hit them.
- Add a separate Boss payoff. Crowd control is not the same as sustained damage against a large moving target.
- Review one failed link at a time. Change the missing trigger, recruit order, control effect, or payoff instead of rebuilding the entire roster at once.
Community-Reported Synergy Examples
These examples come from version 1.0 community build coverage. They are useful starting hypotheses, not official rankings or complete effect tables.
Ranger + Huntress + Mechanic
A ranged chain that starts with marks, adds critical-oriented pressure, and uses deployables or Freeze to protect the attack window.
Engineer + Tank + SWAT
An ability-led chain that uses Electric tools and shields to create space, then adds heavy and firearm coverage.
SWAT + Tank + Pyro
A community-reported area-control chain using firearms, explosives, mines, and burning zones to shape enemy movement.
Medic + Huntress + Pyro
A community-reported sustain route that combines healing opportunities with Freeze, Fire, and crowd-position tools.
What Each Link Should Do
A good synergy does not need every role to deal the same damage. It needs every role to make the main plan more reliable.
| Team job | Useful synergy contribution | Failure signal |
|---|---|---|
| Opening damage | A weapon or ability that works before the complete trio and first Rank 5 nodes are online. | The horde reaches the squad while the build is still waiting for a rare card. |
| Trigger source | Marks, Electric, Fire, Freeze, abilities, summons, zones, or another repeatable event. | The payoff cards are present but the trigger almost never occurs. |
| Converter | A Survivor or node that turns the trigger into control, another status, projectiles, mines, taunts, or area coverage. | The trigger appears, but it does not create time, space, or additional damage. |
| Range keeper | Freeze, taunt, shield, movement, knockback, healing, or a zone that preserves the team's chosen distance. | Control pushes enemies outside the carry weapon's effective range, or the team must stand dangerously close. |
| Boss payoff | Direct weapon damage, critical support, a sustained projectile line, or a repeatable effect that can hit a large moving target. | Ordinary waves disappear, but the Boss health bar barely moves. |
Rank 5: Spend Points on the Active Chain
The official 1.0 tree expansion
The official release notes describe five new Rank 5 choices per Survivor: two synergy nodes, two passive-improvement nodes, and one whole-team passive node that works while that Survivor is present.
- Trigger first: Unlock the node that makes the current event possible before buying the card that profits from it.
- Team passive second: Prefer a passive that improves several active Survivors when it fits the actual trio.
- Personal passive third: Use it to fix the observed weakness: range, uptime, survivability, or Boss damage.
- Do not theorycraft past your save: A synergy that requires a locked Survivor, ability, or evolution is not an active benefit yet.
Range, Status, and Timing Checks
The strongest-looking link can fail if its timing or range conflicts with the rest of the squad.
| Check | Question to ask | Adjustment if it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Range | Do the trigger and payoff happen at the same distance from the enemy? | Change the weapon branch, control effect, or movement plan so the target stays in the main damage zone. |
| Frequency | Does the trigger happen often enough to support the payoff, or only once in a long while? | Improve cooldown, area, duration, projectiles, or the source ability before adding more payoff cards. |
| Order | Does the converter require the trigger to exist first, or does the current card only look related? | Follow the dependency order: trigger, converter, control window, payoff. |
| Target | Does the effect work on the large target or only look good against ordinary enemies? | Add a direct Boss path before spending more on crowd-only effects. |
| Patch | Does the current Tooltip match the older community table? | Use the current client and latest official notes; do not carry forward an unverified old percentage. |
Diagnose a Broken Synergy
Change one dependency per retry. This makes it easier to tell whether the problem is the roster, node, range, or payoff.
The card never appears
Check: the required Survivor rank, ability, evolution, or unlock. A locked node cannot be evaluated as a live synergy.
The trigger is rare
Check: cooldown, area, target density, and whether the source ability is actually active. Improve the source before buying more payoff.
Control ruins the range
Check: knockback, movement, taunt, and Freeze direction. Keep the target inside the distance where the carry weapon works.
Waves die, Boss does not
Check: whether the chain has a direct single-target or sustained damage branch. Crowd control alone is not the finish.
Three strong characters feel disconnected
Check: whether each slot has a different job. Replace one independent damage source with the missing trigger, control, sustain, or range.
Old numbers disagree
Check: the current in-game Tooltip, live Rank 5 tree, and latest patch. Treat pre-1.0 tables as historical until the effect is confirmed again.
Evidence Boundary
System facts are confirmed; pair-specific values are not
- Officially confirmed: 1.0 has four cross-Survivor synergies per character, three ability-linked and one independent; Rank 5 adds new synergy and passive nodes.
- Community-reported: the team examples, trigger chains, role labels, range checks, and upgrade principles on this page.
- Not hands-on tested here: exact synergy percentages, proc rates, damage values, cooldowns, effect durations, clear times, drop rates, or universal team rankings.
- Do not infer missing data: a community table, screenshot, or successful run can suggest an interaction, but it does not establish a permanent 1.0 value for every map and patch.
- Current client wins: if a live Tooltip or unlocked node disagrees with an old guide, follow the current game and re-check after patches.
